The Rai Arts Career Readiness Framework™

The five pillars, each with its guiding question. Career Foundations, Business Readiness, Financial Readiness, Professional Readiness, and Longevity Readiness.

The Rai Arts Career Readiness Framework™ is made up of five pillars centered around a guiding question, which is explored and answered through a dedicated workshop. Rather than defining readiness by one outcome, the framework looks at the different pieces that allow an artist to enter the field, create opportunities, navigate professional life, and keep going.

01

Career Foundations

Am I ready to enter the field with a clear plan?

Career Foundations is about building a sense of direction as you transition from training into professional life.

This pillar explores career planning, professional identity, goal-setting, positioning, and navigating the transition from student to working artist.

Dancers begin to consider what they want their career to look like, what they bring to the field, and how to communicate that clearly.

Key areas

  • Career planning
  • Professional identity
  • Goal-setting
  • Career positioning
  • Post-graduate transition
02

Business Readiness

Am I ready to create opportunities for myself?

Business Readiness focuses on the systems and knowledge behind the work.

This pillar introduces dancers to entrepreneurship, income generation, contracts, negotiation, and the business structures that shape an artistic career.

The goal is to help dancers understand that they can participate in creating opportunities, not simply wait for them.

Key areas

  • Entrepreneurship
  • Income generation
  • Contracts
  • Negotiation
  • Business structures
  • Opportunity creation
03

Financial Readiness

Am I ready to manage money as a working artist?

Financial Readiness addresses the realities of earning an income in the arts.

This pillar focuses on budgeting, taxes, compensation, financial decision-making, and managing the realities of freelance and variable income.

Dancers learn to approach money as an essential part of their professional lives, not something separate from their artistry.

Key areas

  • Budgeting
  • Taxes
  • Compensation
  • Negotiation
  • Freelance income
  • Financial decision-making
04

Professional Readiness

Am I ready to be someone people want to hire?

Professional Readiness focuses on how dancers navigate relationships, expectations, and difficult moments in professional environments.

This pillar explores communication, boundaries, conflict, self-advocacy, workplace dynamics, and professional decision-making.

Because being a valuable professional isn't only about what you can do. It's also about how you communicate, collaborate, and navigate the people and environments around you.

Key areas

  • Communication
  • Conflict navigation
  • Boundaries
  • Self-advocacy
  • Workplace dynamics
  • Professional relationships
05

Longevity Readiness

Am I ready to sustain this for the long haul?

Longevity Readiness looks at what happens after you've entered the field.

This pillar explores burnout, resilience, evolving definitions of success, career transitions, identity beyond performance, and building a professional life that can adapt over time.

The goal isn't to stay exactly the same throughout your career. It's to develop the awareness and flexibility to grow with it.

Key areas

  • Burnout prevention
  • Resilience
  • Career evolution
  • Redefining success
  • Identity
  • Legacy
  • Careers beyond performance
